Throwback LRI Review: In Your Eyes

This review was originally posted on on May 28, 2014, and does not abide by the current grading system.

This week, I received a copy of In Your Eyes, written by Joss Whedon, directed by Brin Hill, and starring Zoe Kazan, Michael Stahl-David, Jennifer Grey, Steve Howey, Nikki Reed and Mark Feuerstein.

I may be the only actual reviewer that loved this movie, and if that's the case, so fucking be it, bro. I loved absolutely every minute of In Your Eyes and if you watch it under the right frame of mind, you'll love it just as much as me.

The film starts as we watch a young Rebecca getting onto her sled in the dead of winter and go sleigh riding. At the same time, we see young Dylan sitting in school having a psychic vision of Rebecca's experience on the winter hill.

Years later, Rebecca is a married housewife and Dylan is an ex-con being tempted back into his old life while the psychic connection between Rebecca and Dylan grows stronger to the point of being able to hear and feel one another.

A lot of people are saying that this is "Joss Whedon as Nicholas Sparks" but excuse the guy for writing a geek story without the geeks for once. Yes, that's what he did, get over yourself. He made a sci-fi movie without actual geek chick - Buffy had the hot chick as the lead and the geeky counter parts. It's a great story in general and no one is trying to be anyone else. The movie is a $5 rental on Vimeo. Come on now. Of course I'm going to tell you to rent it. Watch it. Fall in love with it. Just do it.

I loved a lot about this movie. I loved the editing. I loved the score and then soundtrack. I loved the pacing. I loved the actors playing the roles. I loved everything about it.
