Jacob: The Story of a Suicide Survivor

When you grow up in a small town, you develop a close-knit kind of relationship with people who aren't related to you by blood. Their joys are your joys, their sorrows are your sorrows.

Growing up, I didn't really know Bobby Chase too well as he was in the grade below me. I knew of his brother Jacob, though, because you look up to the kids who are older than you.

After graduation, I moved around a lot and ended up back in my hometown for a little while (this kinda sounds like the premise for Welcome Home, Bobby's show that is available on Amazon Video). During that time period, Jacob, Bobby's older brother, committed suicide and Bobby was the one to discover what had happened.

It rocked the town.

It rocked me.

Up until that point, I had a history of unmanaged mental illness that I squished back down and ignored. I drank. I was generally a crappy person. I started going to therapy, regularly, soon after Jacob's funeral. While I didn't go to the funeral, because I felt that it wasn't my place, I did visit his grave, as well as my grandmothers, a few weeks later.

For me, that was a cathartic moment. For Bobby, this is his:

A trailer for the short film JACOB that tells the story of the exact moment I found my brother’s body and how I managed to deal with it.
— Bobby Chase

Bobby is an amazing filmmaker and I am very much looking forward to watching this work. If there is anyone that can understand why he made this short film, it's me.

I'm proud of you, Bobby.

Lot18 & AMC Launch New "The Walking Dead" Wine Collection

Well okay then…

Wine lovers and fans of the worldwide hit television series "The Walking Dead" can now order "The Walking Dead" Wine Collection from Lot18 in partnership with AMC. Perfect for your weekly viewing parties or for any occasion, the limited-edition collection features three hand-crafted blends and uniquely designed labels to honor the essence of characters from the series which is currently in its 8th season.

With a limited number of each specially created bottle available, these delicious wines can be purchased exclusively here while supplies last.  Just in time for the highly anticipated new season of "The Walking Dead", the sale will go live on Monday, November 6 at 8am ET. The individually selected wines were carefully crafted by the team at Lot18 to highlight their shared characteristics with the beloved characters Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, and the villainous Negan.

The inspiration behind the wines are as follows:

Rick Grimes - 2016 California Petite Sirah
Whether he's fighting off a herd of walkers or rallying communities to defend against the Saviors, Rick Grimes is undoubtedly the leader of the group, just as this Petite Sirah would command the attention of anyone who tastes it. Like Rick, this red is a true crowd pleaser - bold, dark and balanced, exhibiting a notable tension between the bright acidity and firm, tannic structure. You'll realize with just one sip that his is a wine that'll never let you down.

Daryl Dixon - 2016 California Cabernet Sauvignon
Resourceful, fearless and capable of handling both the dead and the living, Daryl Dixon is a loner man of few words, but his loyalty to the group is immediately apparent to anyone he encounters. This California Cabernet Sauvignon is similarly reliable, showing depth and an attractive core of ripe black fruits, intermingled with savory nuances of coffee bean and dried herbs. Like Daryl's crossbow, this is a wine you can count on to always hit the mark.

Negan - California Bourbon Barrel Red Blend
Negan is the man we all love to hate, but you have to respect his uncompromising style. This red blend is also brawny and bold, creating devotees with its robust, extracted flavors of vanilla, dark chocolate and caramel. A portion of the wine was bourbon barrel aged for three months. Composed of 73% Merlots, 18% Zinfandel and 9% Petite Sirah, this is a wine that packs a punch harder than Lucille's, compelling you through the apocalypse and beyond.

Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics, "The Walking Dead" reigns as television's most watched drama for adults 18-49. "The Walking Dead," tells the story of the months and years that follow a zombie apocalypse and follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, who travel in search of a safe and secure home.  The series is executive produced by showrunner Scott M. Gimple, Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero and Tom Luse. "The Walking Dead" is currently in its eighth season airing Sunday nights on AMC.

I'm trying it immediately, who else is with me?

CBS and ANA Announce New Partnership Supporting #SeeHer

Yesterday, CBS Corporation and the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) announced a new multi-pronged partnership supporting the #SeeHer initiative and its mission to accurately portray girls and women in media. The goal of #SeeHer is for women and girls, by 2020, to see themselves reflected as they truly are.

Working with #SeeHer, CBS will deliver on-air, online, and behind-the-scenes opportunities to promote the initiative's mission, joining in the fight against conscious and unconscious gender bias in advertising and media to change how the media represents women and young girls.

"This is a strong alliance that will use our many forms of media to generate awareness, education and hopefully change on a very important issue," said Jo Ann Ross, President and Chief Advertising Revenue Officer, CBS Corporation. "In line with #SeeHer's theme, 'if you can see her, you can be her,' we are passionate about showcasing respectful, authentic and powerful depictions of women and girls as we continue to promote diversity and inclusion through our programming."

"We are thrilled to be partnering with CBS to accelerate our #SeeHer movement and increase the accurate representation of women and girls in media through their multi-pronged programming opportunities," said Bob Liodice, ANA CEO. "The united voice of marketers with programming is undeniably the most-powerful way to influence change, and as the largest group of united marketers in the U.S., we must lead the way. It is a moral and business imperative."

CBS's partnership with #SeeHer will include:

  • CBS Sports Network's WE NEED TO TALK
    • To kick off the partnership, CBS Sports Network's WE NEED TO TALK, the first nationally televised sports talk show hosted by all women, will feature a #SeeHer-branded segment with guests discussing how sports provide a platform to empower women during a live episode on Dec. 19 — WE NEED TO TALK will air following the women's basketball game featuring the University of Oklahoma versus University of Connecticut, as Connecticut head coach Geno Auriemma pursues his 1000th win.
    • To further tie into #SeeHer's theme, WE NEED TO TALK will host #SeeHer representatives and girls they are mentoring at this and future tapings, giving the #SeeHer group the opportunity to see women working on all sides of production, from the control room and onstage to on camera.
  • CBS Daytime's THE TALK
    • Additionally, the mission and message of #SeeHer will be discussed on-air by the hosts of CBS' Daytime Emmy Award-winning talk show THE TALK. Hosts Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, and Sheryl Underwood, a diverse group of smart and powerful women, who regularly chat about the importance of better portrayals of women in popular culture, will extend their support for the goals of #SeeHer.
  • CBS Primetime
    • #SeeHer executives have been invited to meet with several CBS primetime programming showrunners to discuss the more accurate representation of women in television.
    • CBS Cares will produce #SeeHer-tagged PSAs about notable women in history who have challenged stereotypes and bias in their respective industries. The PSAs will run during primetime programming as part of Women's History Month in March 2018.

"Whether through ad or programming content, media wields enormous power in society. Eliminating bias against women also improves advertising effectiveness, which drives brand growth. It's the right thing to do for our culture, and a wise business decision for the network, the brands and ultimately the consumers," concluded Stephen Quinn, chair, #SeeHer, former CMO Walmart and PepsiCo. "#SeeHer is a movement whose time is now."

I am a SUPER huge fan of #SeeHer series called "A Woman Did That" that MTV put out. It's absolutely hands down, the best thing on the internet. Playlist for that is below

Available September 29 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the classic Audrey Hepburn/Fred Astaire musical film, “Funny Face,” Verve Records/UMe is releasing an expanded version of the colorful soundtrack featuring, for the first time ever.

Originally a 1928 stage show featuring the songs of George and Ira Gershwin and starring a young Astaire, "Funny Face" was reborn in 1957 with a different story, new songs, and additional music by Leonard Gershe and Roger Edens. The charming film somehow successfully teamed the 58-year old Astaire, playing a fashion photographer who also dances, with the 28-year old Hepburn as the owner of a bookstore who is accidentally discovered by Astaire and groomed to become a fashion model. "Funny Face" also features the famous vocal coach Kay Thompson in an important supporting role as Astaire's publisher and editor.

Released in 1957 in conjunction with the movie, the original soundtrack, produced by Verve founder Norman Granz, featured the songs rearranged and edited down so both sides of the LP would be of approximate length. Taken as a whole, with the songs restored to their full length and in the proper order, one gets to hear the full musical story for the first time. Among the highlights are Hepburn's character Jo Stockton on a wistful version of the Gershwin's "How Long Has This Been Going On,"Astaire singing about his co-star in a swinging rendition of "Funny Face" (and the equally rewarding alternate version), the wild dance number "Basal Metabolism," the cheerful "On How To Be Lovely,"and Astaire's typically charming and warm vocalizing on "He Loves And She Loves."

The soundtrack, which contains dialogue throughout, includes several other Gershwin classics ("He Loves And She Loves," "Clap Yo' Hands," "'S Wonderful" and "Funny Face"), as well as such Roger Edensand Leonard Gershe numbers as "Bonjour, Paris!," "Let's Kiss And Make Up," and the amusing "Think Pink" (which features Thompson).

Fans of the film and of Fred Astaire and Audrey Hepburn will certainly love this essential 60thanniversary edition of "Funny Face."

SpineScreen App Helps Detect Signs of Scoliosis in Kids

You guys, I have to tell you what the folks over at Shriners Hospitals for Children in Tampa are working on right now.

Parents can now check their child's spine for possible signs of scoliosis with the new app SpineScreen developed by Shriners Hospitals for Children®. Available for free on the App Store and Google Play, SpineScreen detects curves as the cell phone is moved along a child's back, giving parents a quick, informal way to regularly monitor their child's spine.

Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine that can restrict movement and in some cases lead to other serious medical conditions. It is most commonly diagnosed between 10 and 15 years of age, when children grow rapidly. Some cases, however, can go undetected. At this point in a child's life, fewer vaccinations are required, so they may see a doctor less often. Since early detection is crucial, Shriners Hospitals physicians encourage parents to download the free SpineScreen app and check kids as part of their back-to-school routine each year.

"Because there is often no known cause, monitoring for scoliosis is an important part of a child's ongoing health care," says Amer Samdani, M.D., chief of surgery for Shriners Hospitals for Children — Philadelphia. He adds, "It is a progressive condition, so early detection is key. At Shriners Hospitals, our care ranges from routine monitoring to some of the most advanced treatments for scoliosis. The earlier we see a child, the more options we have available."

Shriners Hospitals created the app as part of a broader initiative to highlight the importance of regular screenings and to educate parents on the signs of scoliosis and treatment options.

"With doctors and staff who are global leaders in the treatment of scoliosis care, parents turn to Shriners Hospitals for Children because they know their children will receive the best care possible," Gary Bergenske, chairman of the Board of Directors for Shriners Hospitals for Children. "Since scoliosis usually requires ongoing medical treatment throughout childhood, our commitment to provide care regardless of the families' ability to pay is a huge relief to parents."

If you have immediate concerns about your child's spine or other possible medical conditions, please consult your health care provider. For more information on scoliosis screenings, treatment options and to download the SpineScreen app, please visit

Needed a Zen Break

Welp, I'm back Jack!

I needed a break to get my job back on track and now that it is... I've decided to return to the wonderful world of blogging.

I could go on and on about how stressed out I've been and I'm sure the last frigging thing I need is to overload myself... but I can't help it. I've always been a writer and it's apparently my lot in life.

Sorry for all the apathy in my return to blog post... Byproduct from my back surgery.

I'll work on it, don't worry
